Having spent his summers working in the sawmill, Mike joined the company full time in 1985, after
completing a Business Studies degree from Dublin City University, including a work placement
with Elan Corporation, in Athlone.
Together with his brother Pat, Mike became Joint Managing Director in the mid 1990’s. Through a
series of strategic acquisitions, and robust organic growth, the business has grown from a turnover
of €8 million in the 1990’s, to over €150 million today.
Mike takes responsibility for the areas of Sales & Marketing, and Finance, and leads the team in
developing sales in both the home and export markets.
Mike prides himself on developing long term customer relationships, passionately believing they are
the key to success.
In 2009, Mike led the team which made history by being the first timber processors in Ireland or the
UK to send shiploads of timber to France.
Mike served on the Board of Coillte Teo from 1998 – 2003. He has been a member of the council of
Coford (National Council for Forest Research & Development), and has also chaired the Coford
Wood Mobilisation and Production Forecasting Group between 2010 – 2019, overseeing the
production of the All-Ireland Production Forecast 2011-28 in 2011, Mobilising Ireland’s Forest
Resource in 2015 and Mobilising Ireland’s Forest Resource – Meeting the Challenges in 2019. Mike
currently Chairs the Enterprise Ireland Timber Sector Leadership Group.
