I’m a chartered engineer, lecturer in Energy Systems Engineering at University of Galway and director of Ireland’s national Construction Technology Centre (https://www.constructinnovate.ie/).
My research interests focus on sustainability of the built environment, building performance modelling and monitoring, computational fluid dynamics simulation, smart and sustainable construction, and cycling aerodynamics.
I have been successful in establishing links for collaborative research between academia and industry. I have been involved in the writing of a number of international and national funding proposals, and worked on various research projects, including the Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme with Oran Pre-Cast, EU Horizon 2020 projects such as Built2Spec, Hit2Gap, Geofit and METABULDING Labs; Science Foundation Ireland nZEB-RETROFIT project; ‘Aerodynamic optimisation of cycling in para-sports’ PhD project (in collaboration with TU/e); and Science Foundation Ireland Industry Fellowship with Tobin Consulting Engineers.
I am actively involved in Engineers Ireland West Region Committee (former chairperson and representative on the Council of Engineers Ireland).
